Parent Teacher Meeting
By admin | May 29, 2009
I was so looking forward to the parent teacher meeting. I get to know in more detail of how the new way of teaching is about. When the Principal announced it in our Parent Support Group meeting, I was very happy. So they have introduced a new way of engaging the student.
I just attended the National Achievers’ Congress with Robert Kiyosaki’s entourage of Rich Dad Poor Dad speakers who specialised from Branding, Stocks, Commodity, Real Estate, Sales Partner, Heart Surgeon, Buddhist Teacher. There was T Harv Eker and Greg Secker.
All these Gurus advocate the real learning experience which is adapted from Cone of Learning from Dale, 1969. The illustration of the Cone was given to us from Rich Dad.
1) Doing the real thing
2) Simulating the real experience
3) Doing a dramatic presentation
4) Giving a Talk
5) Participating in a discussion
My daughter’s school has co-operative learning, Wow! that means getting the students to do presentation.
I have been in the Toastmasters Int’l movement for more than a decade and at last I get to see this form of learning in a neighbourhood school! I offered to give them my materials on how students can use the ‘GROW’ model to integrate into how they can use life skills to develop students holistically. To also find out how students learn and create a buddy system such that teachers can practise ‘Teach less learn more’.
Sounds like they are integrating the right brain and left brain and going into feeling! Time to celebrate!!
The social emotional learning is taking shape!
