Dealing with life transitions can be daunting, confusing, disruptive and some times depressing. Life transitions could come in the form of retrenchments, retirement, empty nest syndrome, divorced, widowed, to name a few. Not preparing for our retirement can throw our family life into disarray. These are some of the transitions people grapple with.

Feelings of guilt, anger, heartaches, disappointments are common daily negative emotions. These negative emotions erode confidence, cause irrational decision making. Yet, in the right context, these feelings are completely natural. It is very common for people to lack clarity in life direction during these period of time. Self-esteem plummet causing confusion, sometimes caught in a stuck state, one might not really know where to go. To get out of a stuck state, one needs to have tools and techniques to refocus on what matters. Strategies to reach out and connect with positive people to embrace change, increase confidence and believe that you can have a fulfilling satisfied life.

The Japanese concept, Ikigai, is a journey where one finds meaning and purpose to wake up in the morning. No matter what transition we are going through, using this concept of Ikigai, could help us reinvent ourselves to find out what matters most to us. Most importantly, get out of our comfort zone to do things differently to create new possibilities.

I am more aware, even when I don't do the right thing, I am also aware. I respond more than react to situations. Ageing was never in my mind, now I have a choice on how I want to age.  It has opened a new world for me. Instead of winding down when we age, which is an auto-pilot process and think of ageing as downhill. I now rewire myself on how I want to age gracefully and with ease.  Reinventing my self is empowering, when I know where I am going, who I want to be, what I want to do. I wake up with a purpose, living well and with the right tribe.  - Vella Koh
